Last New Year’s Eve he starred, along with David Broncano, host of La Revuelta, in the space in which he said goodbye to the year 2024 and welcomed 2025 from Madrid’s Puerta del Sol, to the rhythm of the chimes of its renowned clock .
At one point in the broadcast, Lalachús showed the irreverent image in which you can see the bull from El Gran Prix, a well-known family entertainment space in Spain, portrayed as a Sacred Heart.
The image includes the power on the character’s head (the ring that symbolizes holiness), a sacred heart on the chest on which the left hand rests, and the right hand raised with three fingers extended and two retracted, symbolizing the trinity.
“I always carry my Grand Prix Heifer card with me,” said the presenter when showing it to the viewers through the camera as one of her amulets for the turn of the year.
The Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers has filed a complaint against the president of Radio Televisión Española, José Pablo López and the presenter for a possible hate crime contemplated in article 510 of the Spanish Penal Code and another against religious feelings, included in the article 525 of the same code.
In addition, he emphasizes that the president of the public entity spread the image of the presenter with the stamp on his social networks, along with others from the program, showing himself “happy to work with people who take risks.”
For the jurists, “this message on social networks shows that the mockery against Christians had, at the very least, his approval or was even orchestrated by him.”
The organization also denounces “that the attack on Christians is used to generate controversy and thus increase audience, something that already happened with the opening gala of the Olympic Games” and considers that “the use of the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the cow of the ‘Grand Prix’, denotes a clear contempt and mockery towards the rites and symbols of Catholicism and represents a vexation, an insult and an outrage towards religious feelings and Catholic beliefs.”
For Christian Lawyers, “the rejection of public television towards Christians is increasingly evident and was already evident with the hiring of ‘Mr Jagger’, a youtuber famous for his continuous humiliation towards Catholics.”
Its president, Poland Castellanos, insists that “if we continue to see these types of attacks it is because it seems that anything goes against Christians. These behaviors cannot go unpunished if we want to put a stop to Christianophobia, which is increasingly present in our country.”
Decriminalization of the crime against religious feelings
Last July, the Government announced that it would address the elimination of the crime against religious feelings from the Penal Code, which has been criticized by different entities and personalities, including the president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE).
The announcement took shape last September when the measure was included in the so-called Action Plan for Democracy.
Mons. Luis Argüello expressed through the social network More and more expressions are considered hate crimes. In this environment of legal praise of emotions, religious feelings cease to be a protected legal good.”
The Government’s intention has also been rejected by other Christian confessions other than Catholicism, as well as by the Jewish and Muslim communities.
In a recent joint statement they emphasize that “as citizens and believers, we also claim the right of our faithful to be able to live their faith in a climate of respect for religious feelings, protected by other rights also constitutionally protected, such as the right to freedom religion, freedom of conscience and the right to dignity and moral integrity.”
This measure excludes Spain from the majority of European Union countries that protect religious freedom, since 21 of the 27 contemplate sanctions for actions against religious feelings.
The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, reacted to the complaint by Abogados Cristianos with a message in repeal the crime of offense against religious feelings.
