Missionary Congress Read in Guatemala to strengthen hope and mission

After seven years, the Catholic Church announced the relaunch of the Guatemalan Missionary Congress (Commagu VI), described by bishops as an opportunity to strengthen the hope of Guatemalans and promote pastoral renewal in the country.

Through a press conference, the Guatemala Episcopal Conference (CEG) reported that the event will take place from November 14 to 16 in the Diocese of Zacapa. The latest edition of the community was in 2018.

Under the motto “Missionaries of hope for peoples”, this year’s Congress aims to “promote reality the face of a church, synodal, prophetic and missionary as a sign of the kingdom, to encourage the life of the missionary disciples and rekindle hope between the peoples of Guatemala.”

According to a statement that was read during the presentation, the bishops indicated that they feel encouraged by “the luminous legacy” of Pope Francis, as well as for “the encouraging expectations that the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV is awakening”, which they consider “a stimulus of the spirit that has to encourage us all to obtain the best fruits of the process of our missionary congress.”

They also stressed that it is a source of inspiration “the reality that our peoples live, which in the midst of the adversity and ‘the culture of discarding’ that is imposed, in a perverse dynamic of exclusion, injustice and violence, know how to trust God and keep hope alive in him, in the style of Paul, the great missionary”.

Finally, CEG stressed that this missionary celebration “has a fundamental importance, as well as the follow -up that is subsequently carried out with the purpose that illuminates and promotes a process of pastoral renewal in the Church (Catholic).”
