The organization also stated that the second year of the war saw an escalation in hostilities and that the humanitarian situation in the country “continues to deteriorate and will not improve if hostilities do not cease.”
Looking to the future, Caritas called on the international community to continue helping the Ukrainian people. Likewise, the organization prepares a long-term response plan, despite “the difficulties and uncertainty” caused by the conflict:
“According to experts, the war could last a decade. We have to be prepared to offer long-term aid in order to address the major humanitarian crisis that is developing in Ukraine and ultimately affecting the global community,” said Fr. Vyacheslav Grynevych SAC. , executive director of Caritas-Spes Ukraine.
Since the start of the war, Cáritas has also deployed more than 2,600 volunteers and staff members of the organization in the country. In addition, it has promoted projects to meet food, health, housing and monetary needs.
