The miracle was witnessed by 35 students between 10 and 11 years old, who were finishing dinner in their school’s dining room after a day of excursion.
It was Holy Week, so the vast majority of students were at home with their families, and only a small group of students remained, left in the care of some school authorities, all Jesuits.
At 8 pm. One of the students, named Hermann, was astonished when he realized that the image of the Virgin of Sorrows that was on one of the side walls of the dining room opened and closed its eyelids as if it were a living person. For a moment Hermann thought that what he was seeing was a figment of his imagination; However, a few seconds later, one of his companions, named Chávez, began to shout: “Look at the Virgin!”, drawing everyone’s attention. Meanwhile, another of the students warned Father Andrés Roesch SJ, prefect of the school, and Luis Alberdi SJ, inspector, of what was happening, so that they would also observe the image. Alberdi managed to say: “But Father, this is a prodigy!” After about 15 minutes, the image of the Virgin stopped flashing. Among those present there were also those who claimed to have seen the Mother shed tears.
