Ambassador of Argentina to the Organization of American States (OAS), based in Washington, United States, appointed by the government of President Javier Milei, career diplomat Daniel Raimondi is expected to take over the embassy in Brasília in May, according to journalist Natasha Niebieskikwiat , from Clarín in Spanish. Raimondi’s name was informed to Itamaraty, which sees no problems in accepting his designation, as is part of diplomatic procedures, sources in Brasília confirmed.
Raimondi, graduated in economics, entered the diplomatic career in 1984 and has worked in both political and economic areas, including the post of undersecretary for American Economic Integration and Mercosur, between December 2015 and June 2017. He worked in the Chilean embassies , from Uruguay and in representation for Mercosur and Aladi (Latin American Integration Association).
Unlike the former Argentine ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Scioli, an experienced politician, former vice president, and currently the country’s Secretary of Tourism, Environment and Sports, Raimondi is defined as having a more discreet and technical profile. He will arrive at his post in Brasília when the two presidents, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Javier Milei, maintain their distance.
On the day of the demonstration called by former president Jair Bolsonaro, on Avenida Paulista, Milei retweeted on her social network X (former Twitter) messages about the act on February 25, including that of the leader of Vox, from Spain, Santiago Abascal, who stated that the opposition was persecuted by the Lula government. When asked, Presidential spokesperson Manuel Ardoni responded: “Retweets do not mean an opinion,” he said. And he also stated that President Lula is taking a path that is not the same as Milei.
Former president Bolsonaro participated in Milei’s inauguration, on December 10th at Casa Rosada. And Milei and Lula do not have a meeting scheduled before the meeting of Mercosur presidents, scheduled for July in Asunción, Paraguay.
