Mike Tyson couldn’t beat Jake Paul on his return to the ring and lost on points against the American YouTuber

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, 58, lost unanimously on points to Jake Paul in his long-awaited return to boxing, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The judges’ cards favored the American YouTuber by 79-73, 79-73 and 80-72.

During the evening of eight two-minute rounds, which was official although it was not sanctioned by any of the boxing organizations around the world, Tyson was a shadow of the boxer who spread terror in his glory days and was barely able to protect himself from the blows by Paul, 27 years old.

Tyson accused the passing of years from the beginning of the fight, despite having dodged a right hand from his opponent with a movement of the waist. Meanwhile, the YouTuber took advantage of his speed in the second round to enter and exit with the jab, staying distant from the former champion’s once devastating blows.

In the third round ‘Iron’ Mike’s slowness worsened, Jake hit him with a pair of left hands that shook his head.

The fourth round showed off the heavyweight legend, with his guard tied in front of the ‘influencer’ who seemed to consent to him so as not to hurt him.

The veteran born in Fort Greene, New York maintained his attitude at six and seven. Guard up, no energy to fight.

Paul didn’t push. He scored again and again with the jab, at an average of five to one of his rival who was noticeably gasping between each episode.

In the eighth and final round it was more of the same, with both boxers pacing the ring. Jake Paul landed 97 punches to Tyson’s 18 throughout the fight.

‘Iron’ Mike retired from professional boxing in 2005 with a record of 50 wins, 44 of them by fast track and six losses. In Paul’s boxing career, which started in 2018, he has 10 wins, seven by knockout, and one loss.

Tyson’s purse for this fight was 20 million dollars, Paul earned 40 million.

The fight received extensive promotion and was broadcast through Netflix, a video-on-demand platform with more than 280 million subscribers worldwide that generated almost $34 billion in revenue last year.
