The Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay died at dawn on August 11, just over two months after suffering an attack at the hands of a hitman, as confirmed by his wife, María Claudia Tarazona. The politician was admitted to the Santa Fe Foundation Hospital in Bogotá.
“You will always be the love of my life. Thank you for a life full of love, thank you for being a dad for girls, the best dad for Alexander. I ask God to show me the way to learn to live without you,” wrote Tarazona on Instagram this morning.

Born on January 28, 1986 in Bogotá (Colombia), Uribe Turbay was the son of businessman Miguel Uribe and journalist Diana Turbay, who was killed in 1991 after being kidnapped by the Medellín poster, under the orders of Pablo Escobar.
Uribe Turbay, from Maronita Catholic descent, held several public positions until he reached the Senate of Colombia, in 2022, for the Political Party Democratic Center – former president Álvaro Uribe – and was projected as a strong figure with a view to the presidential elections of 2026.
On June 7, as part of his pre -campaign, he participated in a political event in the town of Fontibón, in the western part of Bogotá. There he was the victim of the attack that this morning charged his life after almost two months of being critical.
In addition to his wife, Uribe Turbay leaves his little son Alejandro and the three daughters of a first commitment of his wife, whom he showed great paternal affection.
Cardenal Rueda: It is a time to unite as a country
The archbishop of Bogotá and Primado de Colombia, Cardinal Luis José Ruedio Aparicio, urged the country to maintain hope despite the pain for the death of Miguel Uribe. “Maybe it’s time to call all Colombians to reject all forms of violence and walk together in hope. This is not a time to divide, it is a time to join,” he said.
In a video published by the Archdiocese of Bogotá, the purple also transmitted his solidarity to the Uribe Turbay family and assured him that the Church prays for the eternal rest of the senator.
“I also invite all the families of Colombia to pray. Pray for Colombia. Pray for children. We pray for youth. Pray for peace. And let’s pray to God to give us a renewed heart and a new consciousness so that we can work for the unity of Colombia, reject any ways of violence and be able to meet and dialogue together amid conflicts,” he said.
Fr. Ramón Zambrano, founder of the ChristVership television channel, also expressed his condolences. “Rest in peace Miguel Uribe Turbay. Enjoyment of eternal life that the Lord grants to the righteous, God bless and strengthen his wife and his whole family,” wrote In X.
“The blood of the martyrs is a seed of hope to commit ourselves to forge a country where you do not turn your back on God,” he added.
“Colombia cries”
Several political leaders have expressed their condolences for the death of the Colombian senator. Former President Álvaro Uribe public In X: “Evil destroys everything, they killed hope. That Miguel is light that illuminates Colombia’s right way.”
For his part, the former president of Colombia Iván Duque, said that “terrorism snatched us from a promise from Colombia and a full and transparent leader (…) Colombia cries, but will not surrender to the criminals who turned off the life of an admirable young man.”
Carlos Galán, mayor of Bogotá and son of Luis Carlos Galán – presidential chandate killed by Pablo Escobar in 1989—,, recognized To Uribe Turbay as “a great human being, an honest and brave leader, a politician with a true vocation of service.”
“His murder must be a break point for Colombia. We cannot accept violence in our country,” he added, calling for this crime to be unpunished.
The Colombian authorities have made arrests in the criminal group indicated to have organized the attack. A teenager was who finally shot at the senator.
