Given the “situations of violence” that the state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico, is experiencing, the Diocese of San Cristóbal de las Casas called to offer fasting and prayer during Lent, to ask “God for peace for our towns and communities.” ”.
In a statement released on February 8, Bishop Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez, Bishop of San Cristóbal de las Casas, expressed his concern about “the different situations of violence and insecurity that we are experiencing in our country and, particularly, in our Diocese.”
Bishop Aguilar Martínez has denounced on different occasions the “scourges of violence” of organized crime on the southern border of Mexico, which intimidates residents and even forces them to join its ranks.
