A little more than two months after Hurricane Otis hit the coast of Acapulco, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, the Catholic Church, which brings aid to the most affected areas, reported that it will begin the reconstruction and rehabilitation stage.
This was stated to ACI Prensa by Father Leonardo Morales, director of Cáritas in Acapulco, who announced that, although the last aid is currently being “received” to deliver to the affected population, the work of the Church does not end with the emergency phase.
Hurricane Otis made landfall near Acapulco at 12:25 a.m. (local time) on October 25, with category 5 and wind gusts of up to 330 kilometers per hour. According to the Mexican government, 52 people died and 32 are missing. Furthermore, it was reported that at least 273,844 homes and hundreds of businesses were affected.
