Mexico: Cardinal Robles raises prayers for those injured in a mass car accident in front of the Guadalajara Cathedral

Cardinal Francisco Robles, Archbishop of Guadalajara (Mexico), raised his prayers for the speedy recovery of the 16 injured in a mass accident on October 26 in the atrium of the cathedral, during the celebration of the 4th Day in Favor of Woman and Life.

“I ask God and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Zapopan, for his prompt and complete recovery, as well as for the comfort and strength of his family, in these difficult times,” said the cardinal on Sunday, October 27 through their social networks.

In total, 16 people, including adults, young people and children, suffered various injuries, including fractures, multiple bruises, sprains and burns.

This October 27, the Government of Guadalajara reported that all the patients who were in the Municipal Medical Services have already been discharged, and three continue to receive medical care in private hospitals, “who are still under observation and whose health status is reported as stable.”

The Mexican cardinal assured that he is following “carefully the evolution of the health status of each of the affected faithful, with the hope placed in divine Providence that they will soon return to their activities.”

The local government also reported that the Police arrested the subject who allegedly stole a van in the vicinity of the cathedral and who, in the escape attempt, invaded the square and ran over the people who were in the atrium. The man is now at the disposal of the authorities.

Cardinal Robles assured that he has full confidence “that the corresponding authorities will follow up on this case, to clarify all the circumstances of what happened.”

From the Archbishopric of Guadalajara, it was also issued a statement expressing regret for what happened and requesting justice for the victims. He was also grateful that there were no human losses, and in a gesture of faith and hope, he asked the community to remain in prayer.
