Members of the Synod donate 32,000 euros to help families in Gaza

In a collection promoted by the Dicastery for the Service of Charity of the Vatican, the members of the Synod have donated a total of 32,000 euros that have been allocated to a parish in Gaza.

This is the parish of Father Gabriel Romanelli, which Pope Francis calls every day to find out its situation since the war in the Holy Land began a year ago.

Within the framework of this anniversary, celebrated last October 7, the Pope’s Almoner, Cardinal Konrad Krajewsli, passed a brush at the entrance to the Paul VI Hall of the Vatican to all the participants of the Synod of Synodality.

This collection was also celebrated on the day on which the Holy Father exhorted the faithful to take up the “weapons of love,” fasting and prayer, for peace in the Middle East.

A statement from the Vatican Dicastery indicated that “prayer and fasting are not done without almsgiving, which must make us suffer, it must also hurt us, because we renounce what belongs to us to give it to our neighbor in need or even about to die.”

For this reason, Cardinal Krajewski, almoner of His Holiness, before the beginning of the afternoon session, collected the donations that will be sent directly to the Gaza Strip.

To do this, the Pope’s almoner asked the 368 members of the Synod “to be well prepared.” In addition to what was raised, the Vatican has donated another 30,000 euros.

From the Holy Family Church in Gaza, Father Romanelli, together with a group of children and some of their parents, sent a video of gratitude for the donations received.

They thanked Pope Francis and the members of the Synod “for everything you have done and for the help you have sent through Cardinal Konrad.”

“We truly thank you for your prayers, closeness and concrete help,” he added.

Likewise, the Italian priest reported that this financial donation is already in the Nunciature of Jerusalem, while ensuring that the families in Gaza “need everything.”
