The Mass was presided over by Bishop Baldo Reina, vicegerent of the Diocese of Rome, in the Basilica of Saint John Lateran at 12:00 (Rome time).
Also present were the members of the diocesan tribunal that carried out the investigation, including the episcopal delegate, Mons. Giuseppe D’Alonzo, among others.
After this phase, in which the testimonies of those who knew her have been collected, the so-called “Roman phase” will follow, in which the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints reviews all the information and documents collected in the previous stage.
During this time a thorough analysis will be carried out to evaluate whether there is sufficient evidence that Chiara lived a life of heroic virtue or whether miracles attributed to her intercession have occurred.
If the Dicastery considers that there is sufficient evidence, the Pope can grant the title of “Venerable”, thus recognizing that he lived the Christian virtues to a heroic degree.
After this, the investigation of possible miracles continues. If a miracle attributed to the Corbella intercession is verified, beatification proceeds, and with a second she can be proclaimed a saint.
Who is Chiara Corbella?
The story of Chiara Corbella, born in 1984, is a moving testimony of love, faith and sacrifice. She met her husband Enrico during a pilgrimage to Medjugorje in 2002, and since then began a romance that blossomed for six years until her marriage in Assisi, the land of Saint Francis, on September 21, 2008.
The couple faced the devastating loss of their first two children, who died shortly after birth due to malformations. Despite the pain, Chiara and Enrico maintained their unwavering faith and clung to each other.
In March 2011, while expecting her third child, Chiara received the news that she had tongue cancer. Despite medical recommendations to begin treatment immediately, Chiara made the brave decision to postpone it to protect the life of her unborn baby.
On May 30, 2011, her son Francesco Petrillo was born, and Chiara finally agreed to begin her cancer treatment. However, by then, the disease had spread to several organs, including the lungs, lymph nodes and liver, and even affected her right eye, which she covered with a patch for some time.
Despite her struggle with illness, Chiara maintained a positive attitude and her unwavering faith never wavered. In May 2012, she had the opportunity to meet Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter’s Square, accompanied by her husband and her son.
Chiara’s last moments were spent in peace, surrounded by the love of her family near the sea. She passed away on June 13, 2012, at the age of 28.
Her funeral took place at the church of Santa Francesca Romana in Rome, where friends, family and people from all over Italy came together to pay tribute to this extraordinary woman who left a legacy of love and sacrifice.
