Father Aguilar recalled that the sound of the Cathedral bells has already caused confusion during political meetings in the past, as occurred on November 18, 2007, when at an event led by López Obrador “a group of people who were angry about “This is what they got into the Cathedral, they broke some pews.”
The Mexican priest specified that “if someone, some group, the institution or the government were to officially request that this touch be suppressed for some reason, it can be done. But in this case there was no request, and therefore (…) the Cathedral continues with its ordinary daily procedures.”
