Life marches in more than 80 cities in Mexico this October 2025

Next Sunday, October 5 and throughout the month, thousands of people will participate in the fifth edition of the celebration in favor of women and life, which will take place in more than 80 cities in the country with the intention of sharing a message of hope, unity and peace against the social challenges that Mexico faces today.

At a press conference, Luisa Argueta, spokeswoman for the march, invited the “Mexican State and society to avoid false dilemmas between the rights of the mother and her children and to generate concrete solutions.”

“Integral protection to pregnant women, medical insurance, work privileges, psychological support and better accompaniment conditions”, and even suggested that it is time to “be creative and use even the advances of science and artificial intelligence to offer new alternatives to women with unexpected pregnancy.”

A message against violence

In a country of 132 million inhabitants, of which 69.9 million are women, Paulina Hernández stressed that this year the celebration also seeks to make an urgent call to eradicate violence against women.

According to figures he shared, in 2024 797 femicides and 3,689 women’s homicides were registered, which represents more than 10 victims per day. “Faced with this reality, what this celebration demands is peace, unity, freedom and hope,” said Hernández.

In addition, the spokespersons stressed that the purpose of the mobilization is to convey that “love hugs the mother and the son in her belly” and that the national unity is strengthened when the rights of both are recognized.

“We are both people and both, for the simple fact of belonging to the human species, we have the same rights,” he said.

Hernández reiterated that the celebration seeks to promote “a preventive policy” in the face of the solution of abortion, so that all the women of the country “have the necessary conditions so that, if they are facing an unexpected pregnancy, they do not have to decide for fear of whether I will have a job, if I will have my partner support, if I will be socially rejected”.

In this sense, the spokespersons expressed their confidence that a government headed by a woman can be “a large window of opportunity” for women. However, since the arrival of Claudia Sheinbaum to the presidency of Mexico on October 1, 2024, more states have decriminalized abortion.

One year after his mandate, and with the support of the majority of the local congresses, reforms have been approved to decriminalize abortion until the 12 semels in Jalisco, Michoacán, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, State of Mexico, Chiapas, Nayarit, Chihuahua, Campeche, Yucatán and Tabasco.

Mobilizations throughout the country

Among the cities that will participate this year in the march are Aguascalientes, Mexicali, Tijuana, Chihuahua, Saltillo, Colima, Durango, Guadalajara, Morelia, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Villahermosa, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas, among many others that will be added during the month of October.

In Mexico City, the concentration will begin at 11:00 am in María Teresa Park, known as Parque de los Cocodrilos, in the star neighborhood, Gustavo A. Madero. After an event with testimonies, musical interventions and community interactions, the attendees will take a walk towards the Basilica of Guadalupe, where at 14:00 a mass will be held.
