Leo XIV names a new bishop of the Diocese of Texcoco in Mexico

Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Mons. Juan Manuel Mancilla and appointed Mons. Carlos Enrique Samaniego López for the Diocese of Texcoco (Mexico), who until now was auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of the capital.

Mons. Samaniego, was born on October 8, 1973 in Mexico City and has a degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of Mexico and in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

Ordered presbyter on January 4, 2001, he joined the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Tlalnepantla, where he served in the group of trainers of the minor and major seminars, investigating judge of the Archdiocesan Court and diocesan responsible for the Pastoral of Education.

It was also a prefect for the studies of the Seminar, member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultants, defender of the Pastorly and Vicar Episcopal Vicar of Zone.

Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Mexico on February 16, 2019, it received episcopal ordination on March 25, the day of the incarnation.

Cardinal Primado de México, Carlos Aguiar Retes, has expressed in a statement that “Mons. Carlos Enrique has served with generosity to this particular church since 2019”, welcoming “with responsibility” and request his pastoral parcels.

“I express my gratitude for the support he has given us, always in union and in communion with a server and with the Messrs. Auxiliary bishops,” added the purple, who encouraged to pray “to God, by intercession of Santa María de Guadalupe, our mother, to spill her grace on Mons. Carlos Enrique in this new evangelizing mission.”

At the same time, he requested prayers for Mons. Mancilla, joining “to his thanksgiving for these 14 years of service at the head of that portion of the people of God who has promoted as a house and school of communion”.
