Pope Leo XIV appointed Mons. José Roberto Ospina Leongómez, Bishop Emeritus of Buga, as an apostolic administrator “full headquarters” of the military bishopric of Colombia.
In a statement published this Friday, May 30, Colombia’s military (military) says that this appointment is due to “the current health conditions” of the current bishop, Mons. Víctor Manuel Ochoa Cadavid.

“Monsignor Ospina will remain in the aforementioned commission from the date, until the health situation of Mons. Ochoa Cadavid, prevents you from exercising the pastoral government of the military bishopric,” says the text.
Unlike the Apostolic Administrator Vacant Headquarters, the Apostolic Administrator “Full Headquarters” is appointed by the Pope when at the head of the diocese or ecclesiastical jurisdiction is still the bishop holding it, but the government cannot exercise for any serious cause, in this case for health.
In his greeting to the members of the Armed Forces, this Friday through a video, Mons. Ospina, 78, asked to pray for him and said that he is at the service of the members of the military bishopric and that “I will accompany them some messages. We know that Mons. Víctor Ochoa remains the military bishop, I am Apostolic Administrator but I will do the times of him while he is sick.
On several occasions the military bishopric has encouraged the faithful to join the health prayer of Mons. Víctor Ochoa, 62, such as when a Mass was celebrated for him on May 7 in the military cathedral Jesus Christ Redeemer in Bogotá, which was chaired by the Nuncio in Colombia, Mons. Paolo Rudelli.
