With a participation of less than 70% of the electorate, Argentina held its legislative elections this Sunday, October 26, with a large victory for the candidates representing La Libertad Avanza, a bloc to which President Javier Milei belongs.
Libertad Avanza obtained 42.03% of the votes, while the opposition party, Fuerza Patria, took 28.42%. This result translates into 64 seats for the ruling party and 31 seats for the Peronist bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, while in the Senate, Milei’s party will have 13 new representatives and Fuerza Patria will add 6.

On Sunday’s election day, more than 12 million Argentines decided not to vote, a historic figure since the return of democracy to the country.
“As of December 10, we will undoubtedly have the most reformist Congress in Argentine history,” said President Milei when celebrating the victory, considering that “the new Congress will be fundamental to ensure the change of course.”
“During the next two years we have to advance the reformist path that we embarked on,” he anticipated, in search of “consolidating the growth and takeoff of Argentina.”

Your commitment and your vote are the foundation of our democracy,” they urged in the statement, recalling that the legislative elections are an opportunity to “give greater presence to our voice in the legislative chamber and to influence the direction of the country.”
“It is necessary for the National Congress to become a space for dialogue where we can overcome the social wounds of our people,” they highlighted.
