This January 31 marks another anniversary of the death of Saint John Bosco. It is said that when they were watching over him, the saint performed his first miracle, healing a young man from a terrible wound who later became a saint and founder of congregations.
In the book The Little Flowers of Don Orionethe deceased Bishop Andrés Gemmabishop emeritus of Isernia-Venafro (Italy) and religious of the Sons of Divine Providence, points out that “the first miracle of Don Bosco in death was for Don Orione.”
Saint Louis Orione (1872-1940) was in the Salesian oratory of Valdocco (1886-1889), in Turin, founded by Saint John Bosco. One day Father Bosco told his student: “We will always be friends.” The young man considered his teacher a saint and offered his life, in a Mass two days before Don Bosco’s death, so that he would continue to live.
