“I am grateful for the strengthening of policies that protect us from being forced to participate in a culture of death and that help us restore a culture of life both in our country and abroad,” said Mons. Thomas in a statement of the USCCB broadcast on Sunday.
Trump signed an executive order that revokes two orders of his predecessor, Joe Biden, which, according to the White House, violated the Hyde amendment, which prohibits the use of public funds for abortions.
The new order also limits the application of the Law on Freedom of Access to Clinic Tickets (Face Act). In addition, Thursday, Trump granted the pardon to 23 provida activists imprisoned under said law, including several older people and a young mother.
“The Americans Provida have the right to pray in public, to advise women who are considering aborting and protesting peacefully. We welcome support for those who exercise these rights as witnesses of a culture of life and, at the same time, we absolutely reject any resource to force or violence, ”said Mons. Thomas.
The Executive Order also revokes a Biden measure that had “reclassified abortion as ‘medical care’ to provide public financing to elective abortions,” said the White House.
Mons. Thomas reflected on these new orders and the announcement that the United States will join the statement of the Geneva consensus, a document focused on promoting women’s health, protecting life and strengthening family.
“It is important and encouraging to see the United States again assuming leadership in promoting the right to life and the fundamental role of the family on the global stage, where many pressures can go against these values,” the bishop concluded.
