Five days after ordering his arrest, Justice released this Monday the creator Megadeportes, within the framework of the investigation against websites that broadcast sporting events illegally. The accused, who used the pseudonym “Kahsad”, was released from prison after testifying and provide important information to the magistrate so that the cause can progress.
Last Wednesday, this 23-year-old young man from Mendoza was arrested in the middle of a large operation carried out jointly by the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) and the City Police, with raids and blockades of more than 50 domains from the Fútbol Libre and Megadeportes sites.
The request for release was raised by lawyer Fernando Madeo Facente and approved by the Guarantee Court No. 4 of San Isidro, after verifying that this young man did not have a criminal record and that had not received any financial benefit significant with the activity.
“On Friday we presented the request and it was accepted because there was no risk of escape or hindering the investigation. In addition, we verified that the crime for which he was accused had not had an economic benefit,” Facente explained to Clarion.
During his investigation, the accused collaborated with the case, so new procedures to dismantle this illicit operation are not ruled out. “In addition, he demonstrated before the magistrate that the official site of the soccer match (Copa Sudamericana of the DirecTV company) was very vulnerable,” his lawyer noted.
The investigation began with a complaint from the Alliance Against Audiovisual Piracy (Alianza), in the context of an intense fight carried out throughout Latin America by companies that buy the rights to broadcasts against online piracy.
The Cybercrime prosecutor Alejandro Musso, from the Specialized Prosecutorial Unit in the Investigation of Cybercrimes (UFEIC), intervenes in the case, which led the raid in the Department of Godoy Cruz, in Mendoza.
At the young man’s home, a computer, pen drives and other items used for illegal transmission were seized.
As a result, Justice ordered the blocking of more than 50 Fútbol Libre sites and those corresponding to Megadeportes. The detainee was transferred to Buenos Aires, initially accused of violating the right to intellectual property according to Law 11,723, and this Monday he regained his freedom after giving a statement.
Regarding his operation, his lawyer indicated that the young man, who I had a hobby of broadcasting sporting events by the Megadeportes site, had violated the security of DirecTV and was able to broadcast the Copa Sudamericana match. “That signal was taken by Fútbol Libre and was distributed to thousands of users,” Facente clarified.
The case will continue its course and the sites that were blocked will continue that way until Justice decides otherwise.
At a time when football is no longer accessible to everyone and more and more matches require a paid service to watch them, websites that pirate broadcasts are gaining more and more followers. However, many users do not know that they become easy targets for theft and fraud.
