For the latter, the Oscar received the best soundtrack, the second of his prolific career. But for the teacher, as he liked to be called, music was first and foremost a highway to heaven.

Morricone used to say that his talent derived from the creator and that he talked an hour, or more, every day. To facilitate those creative gatherings, an image of Christ presided over his hall.

Proof of this is the list of religious compositions that carry their seal.

Some of them will be interpreted in the concert organized by the Dicastery for Evangelization on the last Sunday of March, which coincides with the jubilee of the missionaries La Misericordia at 4:00 p.m. in the Church of Santi Ambrogio and Carlo al Corso (of the Saints Ambrogio and Carlos) located in the central via del Corso.

The appointment will be attended by the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestrahe New Roman Symphony Lyric Choir and the Choir “Claudio Casini” of the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

Among the outstanding works that will be interpreted at the concert is Missa Franciscowhich premiered in 2015 on the occasion of the 200 years of the restoration of the Society of Jesus in the Church of the Gestu (Rome), the spiritual home of the Jesuits.

The pontiff could not attend the premiere but received the artist already his wife a few days before.

In this work, the composer managed to combine the Italian musical tradition with his personal style, establishing a bridge between the sacred and the profane. In the concert, other significant pieces will be included such as Cross (1990), Hail Mary of Heaven (1995) y Cantata narration (2003).

One of the most anticipated moments of the evening will be the interpretation of the emblematic Ave Maria Guaranípart of the film’s soundtrack The mission (1986), one of the most recognized of its legacy, which has an emotional burden that has transcended generations.
