Convened by the Holy See as part of the Jubilar Program, the event has the support of various Italian institutions, including the Ministry of Culture, the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate of the Republic, the ANCI (National Association of Italian municipalities), the Conference of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces, as well as the embassies accredited before the Holy See and several international parliaments.
According to the Vatican, an important presence of Italian authorities is expected – as deputies, senators, regional counselors and mayors -, together with a wide representation of leaders of Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
In the days before the jubilee, the Italian Parliament will host a significant event: the second parliamentary conference on interreligious dialogue, organized in collaboration with the Interparliamentary Union (UIP). Under the slogan “reinforce trust and embrace hope for our common future”, the conference will feature the intervention of Mons. Rino Fisichella, pro-prefect of the Dicastery for evangelization, and will bring together parliamentarians, religious leaders and representatives of international civil society.
On Saturday, June 21, the jubilee will be officially opened with the pilgrimage through the Conciliazione of the participants to the Holy Gate of the Basilica of San Pedro, at 11:00 hours. In the afternoon, at 5:00 p.m., the Campidoglio – the historical session of the City Council of Rome – will house the thematic encounter “Ecological debt”(Ecological Debt), which will feature the interventions of the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, the president of the Lacio region, Francesco Rocca, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican, and the life senator Mario Monti, former Prime Minister of Italy.
The meeting will put on the table one of the great issues of the jubilee: the urgency of facing the imbalance between the north and the global south from an ecological and economic justice perspective.
That same night, at 20:30, music will take over with the concert “Harmonies of hope”(Armonia de Esperanza) In front of the Basilica of San Pedro. Free entry, the event will bring together recognized musicians of the international scene, such as Russian pianist Aleksandr D. Malofev and the Ukrainian cellist Aleksey Shadrin, in a symbolic gesture of concord between two peoples in conflict. The artists Brad Mehldau (United States), Gabriella Montero will also participate, Gabriella Montero Montero (Venezuela), Francesco Piemontesi (Switzerland), Beatrice Rana (Italy) and Nobuyuki Tsujii (Japan).
On Sunday, June 22, the Jubilee participants will join Pope Leo XIV to pray the Angelus in the Plaza de San Pedro, at 12:00 hours. Later, at 5:00 p.m., they will attend the Holy Mass chaired by the Pope in the Basilica of San Juan de Letán, the Cathedral of Rome.
The event has the sponsorship and support of various entities, including the minister of the culture, Siae, Enel, Deloitte, Gi Group, Confcommercio and Manageritalia, which have contributed to the realization of an appointment that seeks to inspire those who have in their hands the responsibility of governing. In a time marked by conflicts, fragmentation and systemic challenges, Rome offers, once again, the scenario to imagine a reconciled humanity and a policy at the service of hope.
