Jubilee 2025: Military bishop declares the Amerigo Vespucci ship chapel a “jubilee place”

The chapel of the training ship Amerigo Vespucci, of the Italian Navy, has been declared a “jubilee place” by the Military Archbishop, Bishop Santo Marcianò, in order to give sailors the opportunity to participate in the Jubilee of 2025 and acquire the plenary indulgence.

The prelate made this announcement during the opening of the Jubilee Year 2025 of the Military Ordinariate, celebrated on January 8 in the church of the military penitentiary organization of Santa María Capua Vetere.

“Also the Church that lives among the military wants to put signs in the Jubilee Year as an expression of that hope that the Church and the world expect from God and that God also entrusts to the military world,” said the military archbishop, the agency reported. ANSA.

“Among these,” he indicated, “the Jubilee ‘sacred places’ must certainly be included, through which our soldiers can obtain the spiritual benefits derived from Jubilee indulgence. One of these places will be the Vespucci ship where the chaplain will have the task of accompanying the sailors in this precious time of the Jubilee.”

The training ship, built in 1930, is in Oman on the 32nd leg of its world tour, which began in July 2023 and should end in June 2025. Inside it has a small chapel that is now a jubilee place, as stated in its January 9 edition L’Osservatore Romano.

During the Mass, Bishop Marcianò highlighted that in its long voyage the Amerigo Vespucci “has always had the presence of various chaplains who alternate, silently, but very effectively, accompanying the spiritual life of the crew and they will do so in a particular way in this year of the Jubilee of Hope.”

The Jubilee of Hope was inaugurated by Pope Francis on December 24, 2024, with the opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, and will end on January 6, 2026.
