Jubilee 2025: Half a million pilgrims pass through the Holy Door of the Vatican

Just two weeks after the official opening of the Jubilee of Hope, 545,532 pilgrims from around the world have already passed through the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

As reported by the Dicastery for Evangelization in a statement, hundreds of groups of faithful have already made their pilgrimage starting from the reformed Piazza Pia in Rome and advanced in prayer for the Way of Conciliation until you reach the Vatican Basilica.

Mons. Rino Fisichella, Pro Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, noted that “this is a very significant beginning” with a large influx of people.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the groups of pilgrims who arrive at the Way of Conciliationthe wide street that leads to San Pedro, “are giving an important testimony”, which he interpreted as “a sign of the great perception of security and protection that pilgrims experience in the city of Rome and around the four Pontifical Basilicas ”.

He also highlighted the close collaboration of the Holy See and the Dicastery with the Italian and Vatican security forces, as well as with the Prefecture of Rome, to guarantee security.

During the Jubilee, 30 million people are expected to arrive and, given the numbers of the first days, a constant increase in pilgrims is expected. “In these first two weeks there have been some difficulties in managing the flow that will have to be evaluated over time,” added Bishop Fisichella.

For his part, he stressed that they are working “tirelessly to guarantee pilgrims a welcome and an experience that lives up to their expectations.”

According to the Vatican dicastery, preparations have already begun throughout the world to travel to Rome in the coming months, with the participation of many children, young people, adults and the elderly who have already entered the jubilee atmosphere with the opening celebrations of the Year. Holy.

They also recalled that, to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Doors, given the long lines of faithful, it is necessary to reserve in advance at the website of the Jubilee.

Also notable were the thousands of people who filled the four papal basilicas on the days of the celebrations for the opening of the Holy Doors, often also filling the squares in front of them.

Since January 5, pilgrims can now pass through the Holy Doors of the four papal basilicas in Rome: Saint Peter, Saint Mary Major, Saint John Lateran and Saint Paul Outside the Walls.

The first major event of the Holy Year will be the Jubilee of the World of Communication, from January 24 to 26. Thousands of journalists, communication experts and media workers from all over the world are expected to be in Rome.
