Milei’s letter is a response to a letter sent by the Executive Commission of the Argentine Episcopal Conference (CEA) on December 11.
Both documents were shared with the media by the CEA Communication area.
The bishops’ letter bears the signatures of Bishop Marcelo Daniel Colombo, president of the CEA; Cardinal Ángel Sixto Rossi, 1st vice president; Mons. César Daniel Fernández, 2nd vice president; and Mons. Raúl Pizarro, secretary general of the CEA.
In their letter, the bishops offered “to together help generate paths of dialogue, understanding and cooperation between all social sectors.”
“We understand that these values are fundamental to consolidate social peace, strengthen the ties of unity among Argentines and attend with special priority to the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable in our society,” they expressed.
“We are available for personal encounter and we ask God to grant you wisdom and strength in your service to the Nation and we trust that, under the protection of our Mother, the Virgin of Luján, we will be able together to build an Argentina that is a home of encounter , solidarity and true brotherhood,” they added.
In his response, Javier Milei assured the bishops of his willingness “to continue building spaces for dialogue and cooperation that allow progress towards shared objectives.”
“I take this opportunity to express my best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year (…) reiterating the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem,” concluded the Argentine president.
