The film, directed by Santos Blanco – known by Freedocumentary about contemplative life – is Hakuna’s second cinematographic production, after Vivodocumentary centered on the Eucharist. In Barefoot The group’s history is interwoven with a reflection on how the music born of prayer has the power to transform both those who interpret it and those who listen to it.
Through testimonies collected in Spain, Mexico and Costa Rica, the film offers an intimate look at the spiritual and emotional impact of music inspired by faith.
Hakuna is a movement of the Catholic Church that seeks, especially among young people, to deepen the love of Christ and share faith through music, testimony and various evangelizing activities. On platforms such as Spotify, the group adds about 450,000 monthly listeners, and on YouTube millions of reproductions with songs such as hurricane, night or simply.
Macarena Torres, head of Communication of Hakuna, shared with Aci Prensa his emotion for the premiere in Mexico of the film: “We still find us to believe that this project has ‘crossed the pond’, it is something that completely surpasses us, we can only give thanks.”
For those who feel curious about the movement, as well as for those who do not completely ignore it, Torres encouraged to approach this documentary, ensuring that this film reflects very well “how we live music in Hakuna, and even the charism that has been given to us.”
Although the documentary starts from the group’s testimony, Torres clarifies that as such “does not go from Hakuna. It goes how the truth travels through art, specifically music. And this is universal. Because music, when it really is, crosses you. Travel from heart to heart.”
“And if that music is also born from a real experience with Christ, there is no one to stop it. That is why Barefoot It is more a reflection on how music can be prayer, hug, meeting place, (more) than a documentary about something we do, ”he said.
The premiere in Mexico will take place through the Cinemex chain. Subsequently, the film will arrive on June 12 to Salas de Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama, and on June 18 and 25 to Uruguay. On its website it is possible to ask for any country that is not on that list.
