On Thursday, the Alabama House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill granting immunity to IVF providers in cases of death or injury to unborn babies during the process of the practice. The Republican majority in the House approved the billby a vote of 94 to 6, which says that “no criminal action, lawsuit or prosecution shall be filed or maintained against any individual or entity providing goods or services related to in vitro fertilization.”
Joseph Meaney, president of the National Center for Catholic Bioethics, told CNA – the English-language news agency EWTN News— that ignorance regarding the Catholic position on IVF is a major problem.
“If you go to church faithfully for an entire year every Sunday, what are the chances that you will hear the Church’s teaching on IVF mentioned? It’s pretty low. “There are a lot of people who don’t know what the Church teaches,” she lamented.
