The bishop of one of the regions hardest hit by organized crime in Mexico, where a parish was recently forced to close its doors “for security reasons,” assures that “in the face of the helplessness” in which the residents find themselves, the people “ “They find their only defense in God.”
This is Mons. Cristóbal Ascencio García, Bishop of Apatzingán, in the Mexican state of Michoacán. In recent statements to ACI Prensa, the prelate referred to what happened in the Santa María de Guadalupe parish, in the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto (La Ruana), about 51 kilometers west of the diocese headquarters.
The parish announced on its social networks the suspension of religious services on February 28, stating that “we are in a state of risk, let us pray for the peace of our people.”
