The automotive market continues to show signs of clear recovery in the second half of the year and there are now three consecutive months with positive numbers in terms of car sales 0 km.
The Association of Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA) reported that last month they were patented 43,563 unitswhich represents a year-on-year increase of 29.5%since in 2023 33,634 operations had been registered.
The September number also reflects an increase of 5% compared to August (41,507 units) and 1.5% compared to July (42,892 units) to become the most productive month of the year.
Despite this recovery, the accumulated registrations from January-September (311,645 units) are 11.7% below the same period in 2023, in which 353,002 vehicles had been registered.
From the sector they indicate that the keys to this improvement have to do with a more open market that allows greater availability and supply of models, the reduction in prices due to the modification of the PAIS tax and increasingly convenient financing plans (many at 0 rate %) offered by automotive companies.
“The market is growing because it finds elements that give certainty to customers, such as being able to have very convenient credit, having an increasingly wide range of models in stock, a sustained drop in inflation and more logical prices from the terminals. “said Sebastián Beato, president of ACARA.
The head of the entity also highlighted that “the growth in September, which normally tends to have better activity than August, confirms the recovery of the market for the second half of the year, after an irregular first semester full of doubts.”
Taking this clean and jerk into account, the year could close between 380,000 and 400,000 units.
A new leader
The September results were similar to those of August, at least among the top three. Toyota Hilux It was once again the most chosen vehicle in the entire market, ranking above models such as the Peugeot 208 or the Volkswagen Polo.
However, the news was broken by Peugeot 208which despite having placed second in September, managed to place itself in the top of the general rankingovertaking the Fiat Cronos.
The Palomar-built hatchback became the best-selling model in the countrywith 23,411 patented units; followed by Cronos (22,984) and Hilux (21,925). Of course, if the sales performance of recent months is maintained in the last quarter, it is very possible that 208 and Hilux will define market leadership between themselves.
It is important to highlight that Cronos still registers very good sales levels, although it shows some seasonality. In September, the sedan manufactured in Córdoba finished in sixth position.
Other models that stood out were Volkswagen Amarokwhich a month after the launch of its update returned to fourth place; and the Peugeot 2008which after its first full month of sales was among the 10 best-selling models on the market and the best-selling in its segment.
Regarding brands, Toyota was once again the brand that sells (with three models within the Top 10). The Japanese brand registered 7,965 operations, closely followed by Volkswagen (7,760), which also had three models among the ten best sellers. For its part, Fiat, together with Cronos, closed the podium with 5,156 patents.
In the accumulated, Toyota leads comfortably with a 21% market share (64,011 units), while Volkswagen (48,000) and Fiat (36,023) are second and third respectively.
