The journalist Angela Lerena, with a long career in sports journalism in Argentina, announced this Tuesday that will not continue as a commentator for the Argentine National Team on Public Television broadcasts, a year after forming a duo with reporter Lola Del Carril in the Qatar 2022 World Cup matches.
He announced it with a publication on his networks in which he thanked the president of Radio and Television Abierta for the opportunity he had, Rosario Lufrano, and the executive director of Public TV, Claudio Martínez. And he left the door open for a return.
“With the end of my contract with @TV_Publica, I close this stage as a commentator for @argentina. Many thanks to @rosariolufrano and @ClaudioMartne17 for trusting in my work and to the public, for the affection. I will always dream of returning to transmit to the National Team. It has been the honor of my life ⭐️⭐️⭐️”, he posted.
For many years women were excluded from football, Lerena was a bastion for those who dreamed of entering this world. He started working at TyC Sports when he was 19 years old (today he is 48) and the rejection was still great.
He started as a production assistant and then worked in different television media. She was a news anchor, columnist, participated in radio programs on ESPN Radio, Metro and Mega and was editor of the Diario Crítica.
In the World Cup she made history by being the first television commentator in the matches of the Argentine National Team in that competition, although she also had responsibility for analyzing other duels of the event.
“Tomorrow I will be proud to be the first reporter at a World Cup in the history of Argentine television. Looking to the side and seeing the always professional Angela Lerena here will be another goal. With my friend we will be the first female duo in a men’s world cup,” her colleague had published Lola Del Carril when the narrator-commentator duo was confirmed for the last World Cup, a sign of the impact that Lerena had.
Then, like another of her milestones, she commented on matches at the Women’s World Cup that was played this same year. Now, a stage is closing for her, but she will continue working on the field in the broadcasts of the Professional Soccer League and the League Cup on TNT Sports.
In addition, she will continue hosting TNT Gol Fem, a women’s soccer program on the same sports channel, and Todos Somos Técnicos, a tactical soccer analysis program.
