Benja Rojas is at full capacity: she stars in the play Escape room , at the Multitabarís Comafi and he has two audiovisual projects that he is very excited about. The actor, 38, chatted with VIVA about his work and revealed details of his private life. How the arrival of his daughter changed his life, what calms him down when he is in a rush, and what “allows” him.
-A word that defines you
– Did you ever want to be something other than an actor?
-Look, in 2023 I didn’t work. I received the proposal Escape room and the assembly lasted all year. And in that rut, I said: ‘I have to find something for when I’m not an actor.’ And I started working with my wife, Martina, in the pastry shop at City Bell. I was in charge of logistics, serving suppliers and also acted as a cashier. I love my wife very much and she knows it, but after that more than ever I want to be an actor. I realized that I don’t know how to do anything else. I don’t enjoy anything else. I am passionate about my work.
I believed it at one point, when I was on tour or on stage. I enjoyed the fame.
– What were you like as a teenager?
Having worked as a child shapes you a little, but I was a quilombero. When I was single, she went out, she fucked, I was able to live well and fool around. I believed it at one point, when I was on tour or on stage. I enjoyed the fame. And then you realize that you want to be with someone. I only had my first girlfriend when I was 25: María del Cerro. Then I met my wife, who I have been with for 12 years. But first, I inflated my balls well!
-Raise your feet when I cross the train tracks. Felipe Colombo passed it on to me and I keep it!
-You were in the assembly of the Escape room staging. Did you like being on the other side?
-(Laughter) I do not know yet. It is a difficult task. She had the previous one for a year. It is a Spanish work, which I read. It had its adaptation. It is a great bet by Tomás Rottemberg and the brothers Joaquín and Bautista Laviaguerre. I am grateful because it is the first time that I have been given a prominent place in which I could comment on the formation of the cast. I had a place at the table. I went to see plays to see actors and suggested names. A great cast ended up being put together. I had worked with Brenda (Gandini) for 20 years. I didn’t know she was so committed to theater, she knows about comedy and it surprises me a lot. Sofi (Morandi) is very talented and Gonzalo (Suárez) is histrionic.
– Phrase the motto that you repeat
– You became a father at 33 years old, what changed in you with the arrival of your daughter?
-My head exploded. I came from thinking only about my career and I had the freedom that if I got a job in Spain, I would leave; or if I had to go to Córdoba to record, too. Then, with the birth of the baby, I had to think before traveling. I didn’t understand how I couldn’t control my life anymore. That process took me a year and a half to understand. I started therapy for my daughter.. The first thing I said to the psychologist was: “I feel like two things are fighting: my career and my daughter. And both are important.” The work was just starting Just one week, which was a huge success and we went on tour. I left with the fear that my daughter would forget about me.
It cost me. He was also afraid that they would be with me because I was “the well-known boy.”
– At the end of the Escape room performance, you talk to people and ask for tolerance, how did it come about?
-Nico Vazquez was the creator of this. It is difficult for me to go out and speak, but Joaquín Laviaguerre encouraged me to do so. I talk about why I agreed to do the work. And I did it because it tries to accept differences and different ideologies and ways of thinking in politics as well.. At the same time, he laughs at the labels and that we spend all day watching each other how, when and what he said. We are a kind of judges in social networks and in society. That’s why I ask for tolerance and acceptance. People take it well.
-That things don’t go well for us as Argentines and we continue to fall. Hopefully not. Because this is a wonderful country. I am blessed to live doing what I love. And my fear is that my daughter won’t be able to enjoy this country because she doesn’t have a penny, because she doesn’t have a job and because of everything that happened to us.
– Do you take care of your image?
-I go to the gym so my cholesterol doesn’t go up. I have it high, but it’s genetic. I run on the treadmill and step under my belly. And I take care of my hair: I do mesotherapy (hair) because my hair is slime.
– Did it happen to you to fight with friends over politics?
-Repeatedly! I say: “I’m not talking to this one because he’s an idiot.” But then I think: “He is my friend!” I don’t like fighting with people I love or ruining a barbecue. Anyway, I don’t get into it too much because if I don’t I’ll get screwed up. I think that fanaticism, in any case, is a bad advisor. I can, yes, debate. I am not active in politics. Whenever you win a space, I wish you the best of luck, because if it goes well, it goes well for all of us or a large majority of us. If it goes bad, it goes bad for all of us.
-You started acting at 12 and you are already 26 into your career. Would you do the same if you were born again?
-Definitely. I loved my path, especially because my family always took care of me. I was very clear about my values, who my friends were and where I stood.
– First girlfriend at 25 years old, was it difficult for you to fall in love?
-Yes, it was difficult for me. I was also afraid that they would be with me because I was “the well-known boy.” It was difficult for me to surrender. Then I met Martu, who came from a cinema background. Zero cholula. I met her on Telefé when I was recording When You Smile, with Facu Arana and Julieta Díaz. She was a continuator.
-Succession, incredible. I also really liked Fito Paez’s.
-Go up to the attic of my house where there are some guitars and the piano. I stay there, put on a song and try to get it out on the viola. Or if I’m alone, I like to turn the amplifier on to the handle. An hour of that and everything gets better..
– Did you learn to handle the ups and downs of the profession or do they still make you uncomfortable?
-Last year I got a little restless. That’s the difficult part of the actor. The phone doesn’t ring and you say, “Where am I standing? What’s going on?” And we have to admit it, because People think that because you are known they call you all the time.. And it is not like that. There are moments and moments.
-A glass of wine every night.
-Yeah, I am experimenting in writing. With Felipe Colombo we have two ideas in parallel that I think are very nice. One is a movie, half an action comedy, but fun. We already have the story and the first half hour of the movie developed. We met with a scriptwriter and threw the whole idea around. I would love to act. There are ten characters that rude people have to do. The other is a comedy, with humor, anti-hero vibe. We really want to get into audiovisuals. I hope it is given to us!
