This benefit establishes a quota of 50,000 electrified models that will not be reached by the 35% import tariff that pays any model that enters the country that has been manufactured in some “extra zone” market, that is, anyone less Brazil and Mexico, with which there is free trade agreement.
The main requirement to apply is that the models have a FOB price of $ 16,000. This would be equivalent to a vehicle whose market list price is between 25 and 30 million pesos.
After period to present the first orders for the importers, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Nation reported that the benefit to 33 thousand unitswhich represent 65% of the 50,000 vehicles available in the quota for this year.

According to the analysis of the Secretariat, “imported vehicles present in the local market, including models with traditional motorizations and lower equipment, have an average price of US $ 24,000. Therefore, the implementation of this measure implies a decrease of up to 12.5% in the amount necessary to access an economic car of that class.”
Because of the characteristics set by the new regulations, it seems a benefit made of vehicles produced in China, since there are many options that would qualify with these conditions. While there is no official list of brands and models that qualify for the benefit, it transpired that among the brands based in the country are Renautl (With the Kwid e-Tech and Arkana models), Ford (Territory hybrid) and Chevrolet (Spark EUV) those that requested benefit to import tariff free.
The Stellantis group would also have made an order but for a brand that is not yet in the country: it is Leapmotor, a company of Chinese origin whose arrival is projected.
Among the importers appear Barriers (Eu5 y bj30), Suzuki (Hybrid swift) and even BYDthe Chinese giant that counts a range full of hybrid and electric models and from which an official announcement of arrival at the local market is expected.
