How is the new SUV that came to be the protagonist of its segment?

The Peugeot 2008 is one of the launches of the year. This new generation, the second, not only changes radically with respect to the previous one, but also for the first time it is manufactured in Argentina.

Its predecessor, however, was imported from Brazil and had been discontinued last year. In our market, historically the model enjoyed a reputation that was accompanied by sales, but rarely like now.

Taking into account the results of September and October – two full months since its launch in mid-August – 2008 was the model best-selling among compact SUVs.

Last month he even got into the Top10 total sales and everything seems to indicate that it will repeat this month after having patented more than 900 units (the precise numbers for October will be released at the close of this edition by the Dealers Association).

The new 2008 is manufactured at the Palomar plant on the CMP global modular platform, also used in the 208.

The reasons for this furious outburst have several explanations; one, that the leap in quality, style and technology Compared to the old Brazilian 2008 it is notable; another, that it is a new model in one of the strongest and most competitive segments of the market; and the other, that in addition to the availability of units, the brand offers great incentives and purchasing facilities.

In short, it is its other little star in addition to the renewed 208, which is poised to become the best-selling model of the year.

Features of 2008

The second generation of the Peugeot 2008 appeared in 2019 in Europe and last year received an update in that market. That is the figure that the national production model has.

If you compare it with the first version, which did not reach our market, the difference that jumps quickly is in the daytime running lights, since those fang-shaped LEDs were left aside, one on each side of the trunk, and they were replaced by groups of lights that simulate the mark of a claw.

Visually, 2008 has an impact due to its modernity and avant-garde. Even its lines make it look like a larger vehicle than it really is. Special mention deserves the design of its alloy wheels, which look like something out of the Spiderman emblem.

The mechanical assembly is also another outstanding aspect because the entire range has the engine T200, chain, 120 horses which debuted in the Fiat Pulse and also equips the Citroën C3 Aircross and Peugeot 208, with 1.0 liter displacement, direct fuel injection and turbocharged.

It is a three-cylinder engine – somewhat vibrating at idle – that suits it very well and responds with agility throughout the entire rev range, as it delivers 200 Nm of maximum torque (hence its name T200) starting at 1,750 turns.

The interior improves the i-Cockpit style (small hexagonal steering wheel and instruments located above) present from the previous generation. The interior improves the i-Cockpit style (small hexagonal steering wheel and instruments located above) present from the previous generation.

His partner is a quiet and precise CVT transmission (an uncommon virtue in this type of boxes) which, as a con, has a somewhat “rough” drive when going from Direct to Reverse or vice versa. Another benefit is that it has a sequential manual option from the selector itself or from the paddles located behind the steering wheel.

Those who get into the new 2008 may notice a outstanding balance between dynamic behavior and ride comfortthanks to a softer suspension scheme than those of the 208 and high-profile tires (with 17-inch wheels) that absorb the imperfections of cobblestones and pitted streets very well.

Other high points of the 2008 are the soundproofing of the cabin, with a more meticulous treatment than in the 208; the rear seat space, which perhaps corrects one of the biggest defects of the previous generation; the trunk capacity (419 dm3), also greater than the previous one (402 dm3); and the most important, a firm and safe ride on the road.

The rear seats are now more spacious, although it would be very nice if it had ventilation outlets (it does have USB ports)The rear seats are now more spacious, although it would be very nice if it had ventilation outlets (it does have USB ports)
