“It shows us that there is a deeper thirst, which is that of love for God and neighbor. On Good Friday and throughout our lives, fasting strengthens for combat against a world whose attractions make us deviate and get lost along the way,” explained the priest, who has a Master’s Degree in Biblical Theology at John Paul the Great Catholic University, in San Diego.
For Father Obregón, fasting “change the quality of the sentence“, because “the body feels at the service of the soul, of the spirit.”
The priest said that he usually fasts on Wednesdays and Fridays, days in which he drinks only a cup of coffee until the main meal of the day. “But there are other ways, like something very light for breakfast, a sufficient meal and little or nothing for dinner. Others do not eat but only bread and water throughout the day,” he commented.
