Gender ideology is a current that considers that biological sex is not decisive for the person, but that it can define their sexual orientation according to their preferences and even against their nature, something that different governments try to impose through Education
Speaking through a video link in German, Cardinal Fernández rejected the notion that gender and body identity could be subject to radical changes based on individual desires and claims of freedom.
The “transgender” surgery, argued, goes beyond mere external changes such as cosmetic surgery, since it implies “the claim of an identity change, the desire to be a different person.”
Fernández criticized the use of technical means to “create an alternative reality at will.” Although he recognized the existence of severe cases of gender dysphoria – discomfort or strong feelings contrary to biological sex – that could lead to “an unbearable life”, he emphasized that these exceptional situations require careful evaluation.
“No anthropology about the human person equals that of the Church,” Fernández said during the Khkt conference.
Cardinal Argentino referred to the recent Dicastery document The dignity of an endless On human dignity, explaining the concept inspired by Words of Pope San Juan Paul II in 1980 in Osnabrück, Germany.
“God has shown us in an insurmountable way in Jesus Christ how much he loves each man and how immense is the dignity that he has conferred through him. Precisely those who must suffer from some physical or spiritual impediment, must be recognized as friends of Jesus, as especially loved by him, ”said Fernández citing San John Paul II.
The conference, entitled “The Catholic foundation of human dignity”, Aims to relate Catholic theology to other sciences and visions in the world, said Khkt’s rector, Christoph Ohly, Vatican News.
“With the issue of human dignity and human rights, we have an issue that concerns not only Christians but to every human being,” said Ohly.
The several -day conference examines the nature of human dignity, its relationship with human rights and current debates about its expansion.
