Former schismatic abbess of Belorado accuses Bishop Iceta of wanting to ruin them

The former abbess of Belorado excommunicated along with nine other former religious for committing the crime of schism, Laura Gil de Biedma, has spread a message in which she accuses the Archbishop of Burgos (Spain), Mons. Mario Iceta, of seeking the economic ruin of the monasteries .

In a speech lasting almost 15 minutes, the former abbess assures that since June 5, the Archbishop of Burgos took control of the bank accounts associated with the community after her excommunication, “it is leading to ruin.” ” to the monasteries and predicts that “by September they will be ruined, if not seized and if not, sold to the banks.”

“Mr. Iceta has set up a management committee. Apparently it was to help the nuns, he did not want to extort”, he has come to say with irony.

Gil de Biedma also assures that “the only thing they are paying for is electricity” and that they have not been given anything “for food, neither for the elderly nor for the others”, in such a way that, he assures, they are depending on donations.

“They have suspended all payments, all of them, absolutely all of them. The same with milk and flour, with which we made muffins to survive; like sugar, like everything that is raw material for the factory. They don’t pay for gas either. They don’t pay for phones, they don’t pay for internet, fiber optics,” he adds. He has also pointed out that there are workers who have not been paid for several months.

The former abbess considers that “at this moment things are getting completely out of hand. I had the intuition that the path Don Mario was going to take was going to ruin us. And that intuition, now I can simply say that it was correct, that it is leading us to total ruin.”

In the past, she has spoken about the economic situation, which has repeatedly required the former abbess to provide documentation on supplies, employment contracts and suppliers without success to study the payments to be made.

What has happened to the community of former Poor Clares of Belorado?

On May 13, a statement and manifesto of schismatic and sedevacantist content signed by the then abbess (known then as Sister Isabel de la Trinidad) was made public, supported by a total of 10 of the 16 sisters of the Poor Clare community of the Monastery of Belorado y Orduña, located in the Archdiocese of Burgos and the Diocese of Vitoria (Spain).

Of the remaining six, one left the convent a few days later to, she alleged, “not belong to that sect” and the rest are elderly and in delicate health conditions, which is why they have not participated in the schismatic operation.

Shortly after, it was learned that the then nuns had placed themselves under the authority of a false bishop excommunicated in 2019, Pablo de Rojas, promoter of a group called Pía Unión de San Pablo.

On May 29, the day the abbess’ mandate expired, the Holy See announced the appointment of Bishop Iceta as Pontifical Commissioner “with all powers.” He takes control of the bank accounts and begins the excommunication process.

On June 21, the 10 women reiterated in a statement their desire not to belong to the Catholic Church. The next day, the Pontifical Commissioner decrees excommunication and expulsion from consecrated life for the crime of schism. A few days later, the now ex-religious expel the false bishop Pablo de Rojas.
