Fluminense announced this Monday the dismissal of coach Fernando Diniz, the coach who led them to win their first Copa Libertadores last November, after losing the Rio classic 1-0 against Flamengo on Sunday for the Brasileirao.
“Coach Fernando Diniz left the command of Fluminense FC this Monday,” the Rio de Janeiro club announced in a statement.
The decision on the departure of the coach, who had a stint as interim of the Brazilian National Team, is due to the team’s poor results since it is last in the Brasileirao standings, with six points. So far Flu has one victory, three draws and seven defeats in eleven games played.

His replacement for the next match, against Vitória, at the Maracaná, is assistant coach Marcão. This was confirmed by the same club in the press release.
“Diniz leaves as a legacy of his journey not only some of the most important titles in the history of our club, won in 2023 and 2024, but also the legacy of a very successful work in the first stage of his current journey, important lessons about his way of understanding football and a humanistic vision that together provide an enormous contribution to this sport,” the statement states.
