Every February 3 is the feast of Bishop San Blas, patron saint of laryngologists against throat diseases. On this day, priests can bless the throats of the faithful with a special prayer and two crossed candles.
The doctor Saint Blaise was Bishop of Sebaste, in Armenia. It is estimated that he died a martyr in the year 316. According to the saints website corazones.orgadministered by the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary, the saint miraculously cured many sick people and, according to legend, also the animals that came to him with ailments.
One day a desperate mother went to the bishop to ask him to save her son (some maintain that she was a girl), who was drowning because a fish bone had gotten stuck in her throat.
