Reading taken from the Gospel according to Saint Luke:
«People asked him: “Well, what should we do?” And he answered them: “Whoever has two tunics, let him share them with the one who has none; whoever has food, let him do the same.” Publicans also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?”
He told them: “Do not demand more than what is set for you.” Some soldiers also asked him: “And what should we do?” He told them: “Do not extort anyone, do not make false accusations, and be content with your soldiery.” As the people were waiting, they were all thinking in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ; John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water; but he who is stronger than I is coming, and I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. In his hand is the fork.” to cleanse his threshing floor and gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.” And, with many other exhortations, he announced the Good News to the people »(Lk 3:10-18).
