Faithful rescue the host consecrated during attack in a chapel in Spain

A Catholic woman rescued a consecrated host during an attack perpetrated by a person with mental problems in a perpetual worship chapel in Spain.

A person with mental health disorders broke out last Tuesday in the perpetual Eucharistic worship chapel of the Royal Parish of San Martín Obispo and San Antonio Abad (Valencia), assaulting the faithful and damaging custody.

As reported by what happened, the aggressor insulted and physically assaulted the faithful, causing serious material damage on the altar and the temple.

A woman who was in the chapel at the time of aggression was able to rescue the consecrated host, leaving her safe in the tabernacle of the Valencia Cathedral and preventing a desecration from occurring.

As reported by a witness to the mediathe attacker “launched two punches” when she tried to take her away from the altar. They also denounced that he threw against the present candles on and that several faithful slipped and suffered cuts due to the oil and the crystals of the ground.

The faithful, shocked, warned the police and also recorded the chapel after the attack. In a video broadcast on social networks you can see the damage caused by the aggressor.

Although some media reported that it was an Islamist attack, the parish priest and canon of the Cathedral, P. Mariano Trenco, explained in statements to the diario ABC that the aggressor is known for her mental health problems.

The pastor explained that “he used to sit at the end of the chapel and made strange gestures” and that it is an unbalanced person “who simply lost control in the chapel.”

The chapel, which has been open for 13 years, must remain closed for a few days to fix the damage, according to the priest, who also thanked the “exemplary” collaboration of the faithful who were present.
