In the temple, the strangers broke the demonstrator – in which the consecrated host for their worship is exposed – and stole the Eucharist, whose fragments were found scattered in the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament and in the street.
The Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutiérrez condemned these facts, qualifying them as “direct aggression to the community, the Eucharist and the sense of faith of each Catholic.”
“We do not know the reasons and causes that led to these acts of desecration and aggression to the community,” says the statement. However, he affirms that this will not stop “our work to continue announcing and testifying the message of salvation, and does not cause the impairment of our faith.”
According to canonical law, the baptized who commit “a vexation to a sacred place (the temple) and a desecration against the sacred Eucharistic species,” they incur a crime against the sacraments and are automatically excommunicated (automatic).
The Archdiocese called on the parish community of San Esteban Mártir and all the Catholic faithful to join in prayer “to spiritually repair the damage that has been caused to our sacred place.”
Likewise, it was announced that acts of relief will be carried out to foster “the love of Jesus Christ, present and live in the Holy Eucharist.” The faithful and parish priests were also urged to strengthen safety in the temples and organize repair acts, especially with nocturnal worship groups, perpetual candle, partners of the Blessed Sacrament and honor guard.
Finally, the Archdiocese invited the community to strengthen its love to the Eucharist and live “intensely this year dedicated precisely to this august sacrament, charity and mission.”
