Elections in Mexico: Bishop asks to improve education in poor and violent areas

Mons. Jaime Calderón Calderón, Bishop of Tapachula, on the border of Mexico with Guatemala, called on the candidates of the next elections in Mexico to assume “greater responsibility in the field of education”, to improve the conditions of students who live in areas affected by poverty and violence.

On June 2, 2024, Mexicans will elect 629 federal officials, including 128 senators, 500 deputies and a new president of the Republic, who will succeed Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

That same day, elections will also be held for various state authorities. In Chiapas, a new governor and new state congressmen, as well as municipal authorities, will be voted on.
