The Bishop of Hualien (Taiwan), Bishop Philip Huang Chao-ming, expressed his closeness to the victims of the earthquake that hit the east coast of the Asian island this morning and which has so far left nine dead and more than 800 injured.
The 7.4 magnitude earthquake, the strongest in the last 25 years, had its epicenter about 18 kilometers from the city of Haulien. According to information, there are around 127 people trapped, of which 77 are in the tunnels in the Jinwen and Qingshui mountains.
According Asia NewsBishop Huang Chao-ming reported in a statement that they have contacted all the parishes to offer them their closeness and assistance. “At the moment, except for some objects that fell to the ground or were affected and need repair, there are no reports of serious damage,” he said.
