In other videos circulating on social networks, scenes of great confusion appear in the streets after clashes broke out. The government of the African country did not comment on the drama at the moment.
“It all arose from a protest over a referee’s decision. Several fans invaded the field of play,” a witness who also chose to remain anonymous for security reasons told AFP. After the pitched battle, they say that the security forces began to repress and launch tear gas and that caused a deadly stampede.
According to the press, it was a tournament dedicated to the head of the Guinean military junta, General Mamadi Doumbouya, who came to power after a coup d’état in September 2021 and later became president.
