Since April 2021, Bishop Harrington had held the position of national director of the PMS in the United States, a pontifical organization that supports the Pope’s missionary work. Additionally, he had held the position of vicar of communications in the Diocese of Brooklyn since 2006. However, he was suspended from his ministry pending a diocesan evaluation to determine his suitability to continue serving the Church.
“I have valued my 22 years in the priesthood, both in Brooklyn and in service to the Holy Father and the Church. It has been my greatest privilege to serve in my parish and in the missions, accompanying the Church in places where it is still young, often poor and frequently persecuted,” said Bishop Harrington.
