Due to a “vocational crisis”, the Diocese of Nuevo Laredo, located in northern Mexico, announced that the Congregation of the Oblates of Jesus Priest, dedicated to serving the priests, retires after 35 years of presence.
The Oblate Sisters of Jesus Priest are a religious congregation whose main mission is to pray for the holiness of priests and seminarians, in addition to collaborating in tasks within the diocesan offices.

According to a statement, They arrived at the Diocese of Nuevo Laredo with Mons. Ricardo Watty Urquidi, in November 1989. His mission in the diocese began in the seminar and in the Secretariat of the Bishopric, and “over time, they expanded their service to the vocational pastoral, also continuing in the Secretariat of the Bishopric to date.”
In this sense, they regretted their departure, since, they pointed out that “the foundation of our beloved diocese, various religious communities were fundamental pieces for the birth and growth of this particular church,” as the Oblate sisters were.
“The vocational crisis that we live in the Church has also affected the sisters, so, with a lot of pain and in the best of the terms, they have decided to close their mission in our diocese as of August of this year,” says the Diocesan statement.
According to him Diocese website22 communities of consecrated life, 16 religious priests and 48 diocesans remain.
Finally, they expressed their gratitude towards the congregation of Oblates of Jesus Priest and towards each of the sisters that “with generosity and delivery” were part of the diocese walk.
They also invited the faithful to unite in prayer “for the increase in vocations to consecrated life, trusting that the Lord will continue to guide and strengthen their Church.”
