The conference will feature experts in law, psychology and pastoral, who will analyze the social consequences of pornography, especially in women and children.

Among the speakers will be the permanent observer of the Holy See before the United Nations, Archbishop Gabriele; the director of the Department of Marriage and Family Life of the United States Catholic Bishop Conference (USCCB), Julia Dezelski; the person in charge of the WARNING AREA OF THE USCCB, MARIA PARKER; The Vice President and Director of Public Policies of the Agency National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE).

Eleanor Gaetan, Director of Incidence for UN Affairs and the Council of Europe will also participate; Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe (FAFCE); Teresa Gerns Jiménez-Villarejo, and Marriage and Family Policies Advisor of the USCCB, who will moderate the session and Marissa Eckelkamp.

The appointment is part of the thirty anniversary of the publication of the Declaration and Platform of Action of Beijing, a resolution adopted by the United Nations Organization on September 15, 1995 at the end of the fourth World Conference on Women.

The document recognized the harmful effects of pornography on women and girls, by promoting violence and strengthening degrading representations.

However, the organizers of the event regretted that despite international efforts, “the proliferation of pornography in the digital age continues to represent a growing challenge, especially with the rise of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and social networks.”

In addition to child exploitation in pornography production, the event will address emerging abuse forms, such as “sexants” and “virtual child pornography”, practices that violate the dignity of people and generate serious psychological and social consequences.

Pope Francis has described pornography as a “brutality” that requires urgent attention.

The United States Catholic Bishop Conference (USCCB) published in 2015 the pastoral document “Create in me a pure heart”, an answer to raise awareness about the destructive effects of pornography and help the healing of those who have been affected by it.

In this context, the event organized by the Holy See seeks to promote a global dialogue about current challenges and discuss effective strategies to counteract this form of violence.
