The new historical drama series was created by Jon Erwin, known by films such as Jesus Revolution, I Still Believe y I Can Only Imagine. In addition to being a writer and director of the series, he worked alongside Jon Gunn, director of The Case for Christ y Ordinary Angels. David’s house It is Erwin’s most recent project, produced by his independent study, The Wonder Project, aimed at audiences with values and faith.
“David’s housefor me, he started when I was 16 and went to Israel with my father, ”Erwin said in an interview with CNA – Ewtn News English. “I bought my first camera with money that I didn’t have, and it was probably the best gift I have received. We went to Israel to film a documentary about some sacred sites called In the Steps of Jesus”.
While visiting David’s tomb, Erwin recalled that he was reflecting: “What kind of life must be lived so that your words resonate over the centuries?”
“Since then, I wanted to tell this story. So each film in which I have worked or had the privilege of participating has been an attempt to acquire the necessary skills to eventually tell David’s story, ”he explained.
“I feel grateful to have contributed to bring this story to the screen, and even more for having participated in its creation,” he adds.
Erwin highlighted the importance of staying faithful to writing by telling David’s story and stressed that the base of the project is “to love the material.”
“I truly love David’s story, David’s psalms, the Bible itself; It is a fundamental part of my life and has always been, ”he explained.
In addition to his personal connection with history, Erwin sought the opinion and guidance of Christian and Jewish scholars to complement the aspects not detailed in writing.
“I remind people that this is not writing,” Erwin said. “This is not the original material. It is a love letter to the original material. It is a television program, but I hope you take people to the original material and start the same trip as me … I had never read the psalms so much! They are beautiful, significant, poetic and sincere words that can really provide great comfort no matter what you are happening. ”
Michael Iskander, the actor who plays David, shared the same perspective on the importance of sacred writing in the interpretation of this emblematic character.
“Taking into account the reverence for writing and what he represents biblically, I found myself constantly reading the Psalms and Samuel’s book to remember David’s true character and his heart, trying to find him at all times,” he told CNA.
Iskander highlighted the importance of “focusing on reverence for writing” when addressing its role.
“David’s Psalms are really powerful, and I hope people read them more and with a new perspective, as has happened to me while I did the series,” Erwin concluded.
