A year after Peronism’s defeat to Javier Milei in the dispute for Casa Rosada, former president and former vice-president Cristina Kirchner has told interlocutors that she is worried about the economic and social situation in Argentina. Cristina has admitted that Milei’s election also occurred due to errors of Peronism and Kirchnerism (a branch of historic Peronism, founded more than 80 years ago).
Cristina wants to be president of the Justicialista Party, which holds an election in November. Those who know her say that, at the moment, her plan would not be to return to the Presidency, but to be an “active” part of Argentine politics – and especially during the Milei government. So far, his ticket is unique, as his possible opponent, the governor of the province of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela, has not yet had his candidacy confirmed and has warned that he will appeal to the courts.
The former president has a high rate of popular rejection, according to surveys, and a loyal electorate of around 30%. She stopped speaking to then President Alberto Fernández, Milei’s predecessor and who became President on her recommendation, when they were both still in power. In recent days, she has increasingly recognized that management errors generated popular dissatisfaction and opened the polls to Milei.
In addition to receiving politicians and social and human rights leaders, Cristina has received international diplomats. This Tuesday, she met with the Brazilian ambassador in Buenos Aires, Julio Bitelli. And he posted a photo of the meeting on his social networks.
