The Apostolic Nunciature in Ecuador has published a statement in response to some information that points to a possible trip by Pope Francis to the country on the occasion of the celebration of the International Eucharistic Congress next September.
The Vatican diplomatic representation in Ecuador affirms that “The Holy Father (although not always) has sometimes presided over the closing Mass” of the international Eucharistic congresses, which on this occasion will be celebrated from September 8 to 15 in Quito.
The nunciature explains that, if he went on the occasion of the International Eucharistic Congress, Pope Francis would do so “only for that Mass on September 15 and it would not be a visit to the country (which he already made in 2015).”
